What Now? June - July '00

Quid'•nunc 2000 —
Where You’ll Want To Go Today!

by Bill HiblerBill sez - Secure Your Own Place On The Internet For Fun Or Profit
We worked. We sawed. We shifted.
And now were ready for the Quid'·.nunc Grand Reopening on July 1.
When you get here for the QGR, you'll discover that the store has been reconfigured to be easier for you to use.
You’ll have to get used to coming in through a new door — it's the middle one now. We've moved our counter to the middle of the store where it's convenient for all purchases. (You won’t have to shout so much to get our attention, either)
Our demo computers are now in the old front window. That way you can look at what's on them without being in the way.
Our Software for Kids is now even easier for children to reach.
And now one door works for everybody, whether you’re coming in for software, hardware, repairs, Internet and DSL signups or to pick up your new computer. No more forgetting which door to come in through.

Stop By And Save
The best part of all this work that we're having a Grand Reopening Sale on July 1 and 2. Of course there'll be great prices on everything in the store, Even better, everybody who comes into the store who makes a purchase will be entered into a drawing. If we pull your name out at 5 PM on Sunday, July 2, you'll get your purchase FREE. Buy a mouse pad, and your mouse pad will be free, buy The Sims, and The Sims will be free. Buy a custom-built Quid'·.nunc computer, and the computer will be free!
So come by to visit, check out snuff that you may have never gotten to before through the maze of floor displays, and get a good deal on a whole lot of stuff! Q

Play Internet Games at Quid'•nunc

Quid'•nunc is the perfect place to log on to play all the great network games you can play on the Internet. Play Messiah, Starcraft with Broodwars, Half-Life with Counterstrike, EverQuest, Beetle Buggin; Quake 2, and soon, Thief 2, Homeworld, and Quake 3. When you play on the demo computers here at the store, you can get hints from staffers and visitors... or show off for them.
It'll cost just $5 per hour, making it one of the best entertainment bargains you'll find. And you don't have to play games only. You can simply use the computers to access the Internet. Q

Summer Means Festivals, Fun
— And
Quid'•nunc!

You know we love to do fun stuff here at The Junction.
There's the annual West Seattle Street Festival July 13-16, which is in its 17th year.
There's the Farmers Market, opening June 18, which was launched last year to great success.
And this year there's the West Seattle Walk-In Cinema, which started on Memorial Day weekend and runs on Fridays throughout the summer.
What does this have to do with Quid'•nunc? Only this: If The Junction is hopping, you can always stop in here.
Coming here for the Street Festival? We'll be open. We'll even have a place at the Sidewalk Sale, so you may find what you're looking for without having to put down your elephant ear or kielbasa.
Coming on Sunday for the Farmers Market? We'll be open. In fact, we might be the perfect next stop. After all, if you're happily taking home bags of fresh produce, some of our recipe software might be just what you're looking for.
Will you be coming on Friday nights for the outdoor cinema? Then you'll have some time to browse Quid'•nunc between when you set up your chair and when the show starts at dusk. We'll be closing at 8 PM on Fridays all summer long.
So when you're thinking of fun at The Junction, remember to think of it as a great opportunity to buy a new toner cartridge, drop off your computer for a hard drive trade-up, or sign up for Internet service.
And just think - it'll be easier than ever to say it's been fun when you've seen us! Q

Whenever The Junction is hopping this summer, you can always stop in at Quid'•nunc

DSL: The Best Way To Access The Web

Do you hate the World Wide Web because it's too slow? Would you like to access the Internet 900% faster? Then you really need to check out DSL Internet access. Most (though not all) Seattle residents can use DSL, which requires no special connection from US West.
US West is offering a great deal to sign up now, too. Go to a US West demonstration site and get $230 in coupons and discounts. And guess what? Quid'•nunc is one of only two US West DSL demonstration sites in Seattle. And, of course, Quid'•nunc can still be your ISP - all US West provides is the phone line, just like it does now Q

Quick Help
For Slow
Windows 98 Computers

Does your computer scan slower than it should? Does it freeze up or give you "out of memory" error messages?
Our A+-certified technicians will tell you that frequently these sorts of problems are the result of too many - and mostly nonessential - programs running when your computer first starts.
You can see whether you have this problem by doing the following immediately after starting your Windows 98 computer (unless otherwise indicated, all mouse clicks are with the left button):
     • Click "my computer" (right button)
     • Click on "properties" (either button)
     • Click on the "performance" tab
     • "System resources" should be at least 85%

If your system resources are lower than 85%, you should eliminate the unnecessary programs. To do this, use the terrific tool provided by Windows 98. It's the System Configuration Utility.
To put it to work for you, do this:
• Click "Start"
• Click "run"
• Type "MSINF032" (without the quote marks)
• Press the "enter" key
• Click "tools"
• Click "system configuration utility"
• Click the "startup" tab

Once you've done this, you'll see all the programs that are running now (as well as any that have ever run). If you uncheck everything, Windows 98 will still run. Few programs - besides Antivirus- actually help. You can easily experiment with this, because to reactivate any program, all you need to do is recheck it. Q
