  9. The latest news & developments.

We will also have two exciting demonstrations planned.

Don Murphy is currently producing computer-generated special effects for several independently produced movies and television shows. He was also one of the creative geniuses and Co-producer/Co-host of the ever popular 'The Computer Room’ public access television show seen weekly in New York City and Seattle for over four years. Don has over 10 years experience working with PC and Apple special effects software and goes back to the early 80's building his own computers.

  •  Sunday, November 2rd, Hans Westphal will be demonstrating digital photography techniques.  Hans has been involved in photography since he was in high school. Until three years ago, he used a conventional darkroom for all his photographic work. He then switched over to digital processing of images. At the current time, he uses a 400 mHz machine, with 512 MB of RAM, and a 19" monitor. A Nikon film scanner is used for scanning 35 mm slides and negatives, and a Microtek flatbed scanner for 6 cm x 6 cm and 4" x 5" negatives and transparencies. Scanned and processed images are saved on CDR disks. (Each 35 mm slide, full frame, results in a minimum 26MB file).

Hans will demonstrate scanning, cleaning, color correcting, and preparation for printing and e-mailing. The image processing will be carried out with Paint Shop Pro. He will show how to select resolutions for the various methods of displaying and printing images, and will have samples of a variety of papers to illustrate the different "looks" that are available. He will also show how restoration is possible, even with badly deteriorated photos.

Both demonstrations will be from noon until 4:00.
